Hybrid buses to reduce Kaohsiung’s energy use
Twenty-three buses in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan equipped with hybrid fuel systems proved capable of reducing energy consumption by 6% and carbon dioxide emissions by 12% after one year of testing, a city official said. The city introduced oxyhydrogen devices on the buses last year, the city’s Transportation Bureau Director-General Wang Kwo-tsai said while accompanying Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu on a visit to Epoch Energy Technology, a high-tech environmental protection company. Wang said the devices use electrolysis to separate water into its hydrogen and oxygen components. The technology won first prize in the Air category of the 2010 Energy Globe World Award in June.
