JAC to start construction of Jurong plant
Jurong Aromatics Corp. (JAC) will start construction of a US$2.2 billion condensate-based aromatics plant in Jurong Island by the end of February. Construction is expected to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2013 and production should begin in early 2014. When completed, the plant will be able to produce 800,000 metric tons per year (MTPY) of paraxylene, 200,000 MTPY of orthoxylene and 450,000 MTPY of benzene. It will also produce 2.5 million MTPY of petroleum products, such as jet fuel and naphtha. Project proponents include SK International Investment Singapore Private Ltd, China’s Sanhai International Development Company Ltd, Thai KK Industry Company Limited, Houston based Arovin Limited, India’s Essar Group and Singapore’s EDB Investments. Honeywell subsidiary UOP will handle all the technical-related work for the plant. (February 9, 2010)
