LanzaTech makes list of world’s best

An Auckland, New Zealand-based bioscience outfit has been named one of the world’s most innovative companies by U.S. online technology magazine Red Herring. Parnell-based LanzaTech was chosen out of a pool of 1,200 firms to feature on the global Red Herring Top 100 list. LanzaTech Chief Executive Jennifer Holmgren said making the list was a tremendous honor. The company, founded in 2005, has developed a patented microbe that can convert industrial waste gases into ethanol and other chemicals that can be used in the production of biofuel, polymers and plastics. Criteria such as financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management and execution of strategy were used to choose the firms that featured on the list. (February 2, 2011)
