After four years, RIL to re-open oil retail outlets in Gujarat
India’s largest private sector enterprise, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), is set to reopen 52 of its 60 oil retail outlets in the state of Gujarat. In 2008, the firm had shut down its oil retail outlets nationwide, which at that time, totaled 1,432, unable to compete with the state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) which received refunds from the government for selling petroleum products below cost. The company said it will match the selling prices of OMCs for petrol and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), but would stay away from selling diesel fuel. The price of diesel fuel in India is still controlled by the union government.
