Top Chinese adviser calls for “green” technology support
China’s top political advisor called for more resources and support for alternative fuel vehicles to boost the car industry and spur the economy. Jia Qinglin, chairman of the advisory body National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, said that alternative fuel-powered vehicles represent the future of the car industry. Such vehicles, he said, would improve the environment, reduce the impact of the financial crisis and trigger the development of new technologies. Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged prioritizing innovation to develop the industry and improve research and development in the country. Automakers need to improve their production abilities and services to meet market demand, he said. (June 26, 2009)
