Caltex Australia names Segal CEO

Caltex Australia Ltd., the nation’s biggest oil refiner, has hired the head of Incitec Pivot Ltd., a leading global chemicals company, as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Julian Segal’s appointment, effective July 1, is due to Caltex Australia’s wanting a chief who could “make a long-term commitment given the tough environment for refining and the increased emphasis on marketing,” the company said. According to media reports, his appointment ended Caltex Australia’s nine-year practice of seconding a manager from 50% owner Chevron Corp. Segal replaces former CEO Desmond “Des” King, who served as CEO since 2006 and whose secondment from Chevron Corp. ends June 30. King will leave for the United States, where he will continue his career with Chevron. Meanwhile, Incitec Pivot named James Fazzino as acting chief executive after Segal’s resignation.
