Jakarta to experiment with wood stoves
The Jakarta administration has begun distributing free eco-friendly wood-fired stoves to households, as part of its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) pilot project. The stoves will be provided by German-based company EnerXI Gmbh, said Daniel Abbas, head of environmental damage control at the City Environmental Management Board (BPLHD). The plan forms part of the city administration’s strategy to participate in global efforts to minimize both greenhouse gas emissions and the consumption of subsidized kerosene. Daniel remains optimistic that the distribution of the stoves will prove to be more efficient in reducing greenhouse gas emissions than the central government’s plan to substitute the use of kerosene with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
