TonenGeneral upgrades Kawasaki, Sakai refinery
Japan’s TonenGeneral Sekiyu plans to complete the low-sulfur fuel production units at its 335,000 barrel- per-day (bpd) Kawasaki refinery and 156,000-bpd Sakai refinery in mid-2007. Apart from these plants, the refiner also owns the 170,000-bpd Wakayama refinery. The desulfurization units at the Wakayama refinery were completed in 2006. The Japanese oil industry started to supply sulfur-free gasoline and diesel fuel (less than 10 parts per million sulfur) in January 2005. ExxonMobil holds a 50.02% stake in TonenGeneral.
