Largest biodiesel plant to rise in Singapore

Natural Fuels Australia Limited (NFAL) based in Perth broke ground in November on the worlds largest biodiesel plant, which is being built in Singapore. The firm will invest US$130 million in the project, according to Richard Selwood, managing director and chief executive officer of Natural Fuel. The first phase of the plant will be operational by the end of 2007. It is expected to produce about 600,000 tons per year or 12,000 barrels per day (bpd) of biodiesel. A second and third phase will increase output to 1.8 million tons of biodiesel per year.  Palm oil will be the base feedstock for the biodiesel plant, but other vegetable oils such as soya and canola will also be used. ConAgra Food Inc. has agreed to supply the plant’s feedstock needs. (November 10, 2006)
