Junee ethanol refinery plans unveiled

Plans have been unveiled for Australia’s largest ethanol refinery near Junee in southern New South Wales. Marinna Energy is yet to secure funding or planning approval for the project, but hopes it will be up and running by 2009. Director John Durst says up to 500 million liters of fuel-grade ethanol will be produced each year. “Being in the heart of the grain belt, the real bread basket of New South Wales and Australia, [we will be] really utilizing the grain that’s produced in that region,” he said. “We’re looking at 1.3 million tons of grain needed annually.” (February 2, 2007)
