Peugeot says it will publish real-world fuel economy figures alongside sticker data

PSA Peugeot Citroën issued a statement yesterday saying that its vehicles comply with emissions standards and that it will take the initiative to publish real-world fuel economy figures.

After conducting an internal review, “PSA Peugeot Citroën confirms that its vehicles have never been fitted with any software or device that detects emissions testing and triggers a pollution treatment system, including for nitrogen oxide (NOx), that is inactive in normal driving conditions,” the company said in its website. Almost half of its cars sold under the Peugeot, Citroën and DS brands are equipped with diesel engines.

“Committed to maintain its customers’ trust,” the French carmaker said that it has taken the initiative to publish real-world fuel economy data for its vehicles, as measured by an independent body, alongside the required sticker data. Chief Financial Officer Jean-Baptiste de Chatillon said that Peugeot is still in discussions with independent third-party organizations who will be engaged by the company to conduct the testing of its vehicles.

Peugeot also said it will adopt technical measures to anticipate the future Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), which more accurately represents real-world driving conditions.

Peugeot said it has taken these steps “in light of the current media coverage on emissions and diesel which impacts the entire automotive industry.”
