FUCHS expands plant in Spain with EUR11 M investment
FUCHS Lubricantes, a subsidiary of the German multinational FUCHS Group, has invested EUR11 million (USD11.8 million) to upgrade its production, research, and administrative facilities in Castellbisbal, near Barcelona, Spain. This investment forms part of the company’s strategy to support innovation and sustainability, with a focus on expanding its presence in specialised markets, including wind energy, food and beverage processing, and the automotive aftermarket. The expansion will increase production capacity and enhance automation, positioning FUCHS Lubricantes to achieve an estimated 10% growth in 2024, bringing projected turnover to EUR81 million (USD87.3 million).
FUCHS Lubricantes’ facility in Castellbisbal operates as a major production and research hub within the FUCHS Group, which boasts more than 10,000 lubrication solutions across diverse sectors. The Spanish plant has operated with a carbon-neutral footprint since 2020 and now features upgraded R&D laboratories, expanded by 500 square metres and outfitted with advanced testing equipment.
“This investment will allow us to continue improving our operational efficiency and move forward in the sustainability aspects that have always been key to our company,” said Eladio Cuadrado, managing director of FUCHS Lubricantes.
In line with its sustainability goals, FUCHS Lubricantes is advancing its portfolio to include products derived from non-petroleum-based raw materials and developing encapsulated additives that activate as needed, reducing energy consumption in high-temperature processes. The company’s Castellbisbal site is also home to FUCHS’ only microbiology laboratory, dedicated to studying contamination prevention, with a diverse collection of microorganisms for global adaptability.
The expansion not only boosts FUCHS Lubricantes’ capacity in traditional and emerging industries but also strengthens its standing as a leader in environmentally sustainable lubrication technology.
