EDL and Puraglobe partner for used oil re-refining plant
EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH (EDL) has been selected by Puraglobe Holding GmbH to engineer a new HyLube used oil re-refining plant outside Europe. This project marks the fourth collaboration between the two companies, focusing on producing high-quality base oils with reduced CO2 emissions.
EDL will oversee the basic and detailed engineering, tailoring the design to meet the specific requirements of the non-European location. The contract was officially signed in May, marking a continuation of the successful partnership between EDL and Puraglobe.
According to Luis Villalobos, director of Project Execution at EDL, “We are delighted to be working with Puraglobe again. HyLube 4 will produce sought-after base oils, which are urgently needed due to their high quality and lower CO2 emissions.”
Puraglobe recently commissioned its HyLube3 plant, which is the only facility in the world producing API Group III/III+ base oils from waste oil. Despite challenges such as limited installation space and changes in the political landscape affecting material procurement, the plant was completed on schedule and became operational in spring 2024.
The HyLube3 project involved significant engineering feats, including the installation of approximately 430 tons of piping, 50 kilometres of cable, and 1,000 tons of steelwork. The successful execution of this complex project sets a promising precedent for the upcoming HyLube 4 plant.
