AMSOIL launches new 0W-40 viscosity grade synthetic motor oil

AMSOIL, a U.S.-based lubricant marketer, unveiled the latest addition to its OE 100% Synthetic Motor Oil line: 0W-40 viscosity oil. AMSOIL’s OE motor oils cater specifically to the longer drain intervals required by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), underscoring AMSOIL’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of modern automotive technology.

The range of 100% synthetic OE Motor Oils now encompasses 0W-16, 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30 and 0W-40 viscosities.

AMSOIL’s newest engine oil viscosity grade has obtained an API SP and SN Plus license from the American Petroleum Institute (API). API SP is the latest gasoline engine oil standard introduced by API in 2020. API SN Plus is a supplemental category developed to address specific issues related to engine oils in turbocharged direct injection (TGDI) gasoline engines. API SN Plus is a supplemental category developed to address specific issues related to engine oils in turbocharged direct injection (TGDI) gasoline engines.

The Superior, Wisconsin-based company said that OE 0W-40 is primarily formulated for newer RAM heavy-duty trucks featuring the Chrysler 6.4L HEMI engine, and provides exceptional wear protection, fuel economy and emissions control benefits over extended drain intervals.

The Chrysler 6.4L HEMI engine, also known as the 392 HEMI, is a V8 engine produced by Chrysler, part of the Stellantis group. It is part of Chrysler’s third-generation family of HEMI V8 engines and is known for its powerful performance and use of advanced technology. The “HEMI” name derives from the hemispherical combustion chambers that the engine uses, a design that allows for efficient airflow and combustion.

Independent testing has demonstrated a 47% improvement in the wear protection of OE oils during the Peugeot TU3M Wear Test, a requirement in the General Motors dexos1 Gen 2 specification. Moreover, AMSOIL highlighted 100% protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) events, a common occurrence in certain turbocharged direct-injection vehicles during high-load low-speed driving conditions.

In addition to wear protection and LSPI prevention, AMSOIL noted the compatibility of OE oils with modern emissions-control systems, ensuring optimal catalytic converter operation and minimising exhaust emissions.
