Gouta is new director general of FuelsEurope, Concawe
The European Fuel Manufacturers Association (FuelsEurope), representing 39 members manufacturing fuels in the European Union, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, has appointed Liana Gouta as director general, effective January 1, 2024, for a three-year term.
Luis Cabra, president of the association, expressed gratitude to John Cooper, the outgoing director general, for his significant contributions to the industry’s transition to climate neutrality and the association’s positioning with the European Institutions.
Cooper, who served as director general for eight and a half years, acknowledged the industry’s intense focus from the political and regulatory world and expressed gratitude for the privilege of leading the association during a period of significant industry transformation.
Gouta, a chemical engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the energy sector, has been appointed to lead the association. Her extensive career includes technical and managerial positions, as well as involvement in energy policy and governmental affairs. She has led major transformational initiatives and key projects, while also being engaged in fostering energy transition, innovation, competitiveness, entrepreneurship, and women empowerment.
Cabra emphasised Gouta’s extensive experience, active participation in the association’s activities, strong leadership, and capacity to inspire and lead teams. The association trusts that Gouta will successfully lead the work in Brussels, Belgium, to contribute to achieving sustainability objectives within the European Union’s political, regulatory, and economic framework.
In her statement, Gouta expressed honor and privilege in being selected to lead the association during challenging and volatile times for the energy sector. She aims to showcase the industry’s transformation and its role in addressing the EU’s ambitious goals for secure, sustainable, and affordable energy for all.
