Bangladesh to map out policy to reduce sulfur in diesel fuel

The Bangladeshi government will formulate a policy to reduce the amount of sulfur in diesel fuel to 50 parts per million (ppm), from 5000ppm. A project called “air quality improvement through clean fuels and vehicles” has already been taken to this end, said a senior Department of Environment official. The project, which will cost 41.93 lakh taka (US$60,461), is scheduled to be completed by December 2010. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is providing 25.53 lakh taka (US$0.37) in grants, while the Bangladeshi government will provide the remaining amount. (December 26, 2009)
