Sasol opens state-of-the-art fuel testing facility

South African Synthetic Oils Ltd.’s (Sasol) on June 26 opened its technology division’s 70 million rand (US$8.8 million) Sasol Fuels Application Centre (SFAC) at Capricorn Park, Cape Town, South Africa. The SFAC will be in charge of research and development (R&D) for fuels and will also test the impact of its range of synthetic and crude-derived fuels on vehicle emission and performance. The center is also one of a few such test facilities in the world and the first of its kind in southern Africa, the company said. It is an extension of the existing fuels research facility situated at the Sasol R&D facility in Sasolburg and complements the work done at the Sasol Advanced Fuels Laboratory at the University of Cape Town.
