Unipetrol to acquire OMV’s retail outlets in Czech Republic

Unipetrol RPA, which operates 339 service stations in the Czech Republic, has reached an agreement with Austria’s OMV to acquire 68 of its filling stations in the Czech Republic.

The transaction will significantly strengthen Unipetrol’s position in the Czech market and bring the company one step closer to achieving its strategic goal of reaching a 20% market share by 2017.

“The successful completion of [the] acquisition process will confirm Benzina brand’s unquestionable leadership in the fuel retail market in the Czech Republic,” said Marek Świtajewski, Unipetrol CEO and chairman of the board.

“The transaction will also allow more efficient utilisation of the larger refinery capacities acquired by Unipetrol earlier due to [its] acquisition of [the] refining assets of Shell and Eni,” Switajewski added.

Unipetrol RPA currently operates under the Benzina brand in the Czech Republic. After the transaction, the network will expand to more than 400 stations, thus further strengthening Benzina’s brand market position.

The larger sales network will also improve distribution of the Verva premium fuels and expansion of the STOP CAFE fast food concept. The acquisition process should be finalized within the next two years.

Completion of the transaction is subject to the fulfillment of certain preconditions, including the approval from anti-trust authorities.
